The name ‘scapolite’ comes from the combination of two Greek words ‘scapos’ meaning rod-shaped, and ‘lithos’ meaning stone’. This naming is due to Scapolites crystal formation as it grows in a prism shape that looks very much like sticks. Scaplotie has also been called Wernerite after the German geologist A Wener but is more commonly referred to as Scapolite.
