Stock Photo: Scallop Shell Dump In Nantucket

Nantucket has the oldest wild bay scallop fishery in the USA. Once caught the scallops are taken to a shucking shanty where they are opened. The discarded shells are dumped in a pile and many local residents collect them and spread them on their crushed shell driveways.
