Pictured is a 10th century sandstone sculpture of Vishnu as Varaha on display in the Dallas Museum of Art in Dallas, Texas. The boar-headed deity Varaha is one of the prominent incarnations of the the Hindu god Vishnu. In the Varaha story, a demon tries to drown the Earth Goddess, Prithvi, under the sea. She is uplifted and saved by Varaha. This sculpture shows the Varaha with Prithvi on his shoulder.
