The pyramids were built of sandy clay from which fine material was gradually removed. Over a long series of years, winds, rains, snows, severe frosts and summer heat washed, dried, blew away, solidified and formed in a natural form the pyramids built from stronger blocks of rock with imposing pointed tops. It is precisely these stronger parts that preserved the finer material that lies beneath them and created these rare forms. This natural process continues today.
