The present church of S. John the Baptist in Gubbio is thought to have been erected near the former Cathedral of St. Mariano, before the city was destroyed by the Hungarians in 917. At the background the Palazzo dei Consoli, a medieval building, built in 1332-1349. Gubbio is a town and comune in the far northeastern part of the Italian province of Perugia (Umbria), located on the lowest slope of Mt. Ingino, a small mountain of the Apennines.
