Ancient Abbey of San Galgano was a Cistercian monastery found in the valley of the river Merse between the towns of Chiusdino and Monticiano, in the province of Siena, region of Tuscany, Italy. At present, the homeless walls of the Gothic style abbey church still stand. Nearby is the chapel or Eremo or Rotonda di Montesiepi, the tomb of San Galgano and the site of his death 1181, the sword was planted in the land by Galgano.
