Rutgers running back Kyle Monangai ran for15 yards and a touchdown on a sneaky triple option play in the third quarter, padding the Scarlet Knights lead to 24-0 as they won their season opener against Big Ten Conference rival Northwestern. Monangai gained 49 yards rushing, and 20 yards as a receiver running out of the backfield. But on this play he did not get the necessary blocking to spring him lose. The Wildcats scored in the final 20 seconds to avoid a shutout in a 24-7 loss. The venue was SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, on September 3, 2023.
