Kabiyuk stud farm is the oldest stud farm in Bulgaria, founded in 1864 by the Ruse Valian Mithat Pasha with the aim of producing horses for the Turkish army. It is located on the Shumen Plateau, 13 km northeast of the town of Shumen, at an average altitude of 194 m. Even in the first years, the number of horses in the stud farm reached about 1,000. Later, during the Russo-Turkish War of Liberation, all horses from the stud farm was removed by the retreating Turkish army to Anatolia and the liberated Bulgarian state found it empty.
