Usually found at night on sandy seafloor substrate this batfish has vivid red lips. A stealth predator it uses a small fishing lure that extends from the front of the head to entice small prey which are then engulfed at such high speed that it is difficult to see by eye alone. Its fins are modified for its bottom dwelling life and will only usually swim short distances preferring to shuffle its way across the sea floor.
