The traditional red hunting coats white breeches and riding boots of the huntsman. The red coats are often misleadingly called `pinks`. Various theories about the derivation of this term have been given, ranging from the color of a weathered scarlet coat to the name of a purportedly famous tailor. Hunting foxes with hounds was made illegal with the introduction of the Hunting Act in England, Scotland and Wales in 2004. However, despite the ban, hounds still hunt foxes under various guises, trail hunting and flushing to guns being 2 such loopholes exploited. Any suggestion that fox hunting is about ‘pest control’ is no longer an argument believed by the majority of people in the UK, hunts have been caught capturing and raising foxes purely so they can then be hunted.
