Stock Photo: Railway Viaduct On The Mosel River Near Zell

ID 63417496 © 6littlemead | Megapixl.com

The slopes on the banks of the Mosel river in Germany are largely taken over by vineyards, offering a wide variety of wines from a variety of grapes. The slopes have been cultivated since Roman times. If the slope is not wooded, it is given over the vines, often growing right down to the banks of the river. The rolling hills and local climate are ideal for vines to thrive. Much of the output is exported, a lot of it to Japan. This railway goes all the way to the Roman town of Trier near Luxembourg.
