The railway station in Rostov-on-Don is the largest transport hub in the North Caucasus. Rostov connects central Russia to the Caucasus mountains, thus it is called the gateway to the North Caucasus. In the fall of 1941 as a result of German air raid the building was destroyed. After the war the building was restored, and in the 70s in its place built a new modern complex.
