Ragunan Wildlife Park is the first zoo in Indonesia. The zoo was founded in 1864 under the name Planten En Dierentuin which means "Plants and Zoos." Located on 10 hectares of land in the Cikini area, Menteng, Central Jakarta, which was a gift from Raden Saleh. At that time, Planten En Dierentuin was managed by the Association for Loving Flora and Fauna of Batavia which was incorporated in the Culturule Vereniging Planten en Dierentuin at Batavia.[2] In 1949, the name Planten En Dierentuin was changed to Cikini Zoo and in 1961 it was moved to the Ragunan area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta in 1964. The DKI Jakarta government granted a 30-hectare land which became the home for this zoo. DKI Jakarta Governor Ali Sadikin inaugurated the Ragunan Wildlife Park on June 22, 1966.
