Prosena siberita, commonly known as the common acraea, is a medium-sized butterfly found in parts of Africa. It belongs to the Danaid family of butterflies. The male Prosena siberita has black wings with white markings on the upper side. The underside is greyish brown with black striations and white spots that form distinct eyespots near the wing margins. The female has similar coloration but is generally paler. The wingspan of this species ranges from 50-65 mm. It has a slow, graceful flight and is often seen basking with its wings open to absorb heat from the sun. Prosena siberita larvae feed on plants from the asclepiad family, especially the milkweeds. Adults feed on flower nectar, visiting plants like Lantana, Ageratum and Impatiens. This butterfly is found in savannahs, grasslands, forests and cultivated areas. It has a wide distribution across sub-Saharan Africa. Prosena siberita is not considered threatened. However, habitat loss poses a risk to its long term survival. It plays an important role as both a pollinator and in the food chain. Ho Chi Minh City. Viet Nam
