The village of Poienile Izei, located in the historical Maramures, is documented for the first time in 1430. The old Greek Catholic wooden church from Poienile Izei was built in 1632 by the village community and is dedicated to Saint Parascheva. It was included in the UNESCO patrimony in 1999.
