Pitangas in a female hand. The Suriname cherry is the fruit of the Suriname cherry (Eugenia uniflora L.). Native to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Rich in vitamins, widely used in alternative medicine. It belongs to the Myrtaceae family. It has the form of globular and fleshy balls, red (the most common), orange, yellow or black. On the same tree, the fruit can vary from green, yellow and orange to intense red, depending on the degree of maturation. The pitanga is a tree native to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, where it is found in the forest. In addition to having vitamin C, pitanga is rich in A and B complex, not to mention that the fruit is also found in good amounts of the minerals calcium, iron, phosphorus and magnesium.
