This is a Melanthera nivea plant inflorescence. Asteraceae family. Common name: pineland squarestem or snow squarestem. Tropical plant, it grows in the Americas. Coarse herb over 1 m tall, leaves opposite, simple, shape variable (lower leaves often hastate-lobed, upper leaves oblong) base cuneate, margin toothed, apex acute to obtuse, inflorescence a head of white disk florets (ray florets absent), anthers black, achenes pubescent, with apical bristles. Observed near Maya Biosphere Reserve (MBR), Petén, Guatemala.
