Parthenay is surrounded on two sides by the River Thouet, which meanders down from the Thouet Valley to the North and winds it`s way around the town before exiting to the South. The town lies on the original ancient `Marchroute` to Santiago de Compostela and provided a landmark for the pilgrims.
