Native palm tree most cultivated in Brazil. An evergreen species found in different types of forests, such as restinga, dense rainforest, semi-deciduous seasonal forest, riparian forest, swampy forest, deciduous seasonal forest and cerrado, it occurs naturally from the south of Bahia to Rio Grande do Sul. It has a single, ringed stem , reaching 8 to 20m in height.
