The deer is from the Warring States period (475-221 BC), which was a time of great political and cultural upheaval in China. It is believed that the deer was a symbol of good luck and prosperity in this period, and the carving may have been intended to bring good fortune to the tomb's occupant.The deer is currently on display at the Hubei Provincial Museum in Wuhan, China.
