Pictured is a male painted bunting bird outside the Audubon Nature Center at the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary near Naples, Florida. The binomial name is Passerina ciris. It is also called the Mexican canary, painted finch, pope or nonpareil. The male painted bunting with is dark blue head, green back, and red rump and underparts is often described as the most beautiful bird in North America. The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary has the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America.
