Owens Lake in Inyo County, California, en route to Death Valley National Park. Most of the water that used to fill the lake has been diverted to the Los Angeles Aqueduct, which serves the nation`s second largest city. Some water is allowed to flow into the lake and collect there as part of L.A.`s legal obligation to control dust that was causing air pollution and health problems for nearby residents.
