Pictured is an osprey with its large fish prey on the shore of Chokoloskee Bay in Florida. It holds the fish in one claw while perched on a fallen tree limb. The binomial name is Pandion halliaetus. Also called the sea hawk, river haw, and fish hawk, this large raptor is a diurnal fish-eating bird of prey found on all continents except Antarctica. Roughly 10 miles long and 2 miles wide, Chokoloskee Bay is located along Florida’s Gulf Coast and is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the Ten Thousand Islands
