The ornate hawk eagle (Spizaetus ornatus) is a fairly large bird of prey native to tropical America. Previously, some authorities referred to the species as the crested hawk-eagle, a name that can cause some confusion as it is commonly used for an Asian species of eagle.[3] Like all eagles, it belongs to the Accipitridae family. This species has a feathered tarsus that marks it as a member of the Aquilinae or booted eagle subfamily.
