Double Academy Award-winning actress, Olivia de Havilland, arrives on the red carpet at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC for the 10th Anniversary Gala of the American Film Institute on November 17, 1977. De Havilland, also a stage and television actress, won Oscars for Best Performance by a Leading Actress for her work in `To Each His Own,` 1947, and `The Heiress` in 1950. She also won a brace of Golden Globe Awards. She appeared in several films with Errol Flynn and was nominated for an Oscar in a supporting role for playing the part of `Melanie` in `Gone with the Wind` in 1939. She was the last survivor of the Golden Age of Hollywood films of the late 1930s and early 1940s. She was at the time of her death, the oldest living Oscar winner. Ms de Havilland`s lawsuit in the 1940s helped bring an end to the studio system which bound actors to a particular film studio and thereby deprived actors of their freedom of choice in pursuing job opportunities because of rigid contractual obligations. The dual British and US citizen, whose acting career spanned 6 decades, died in Paris, France, on July 26, 2020, at the age of 104.
