View of the Obelisk of Thutmose III that Theodosius the Great brought from Egypt in 390 to adorne the Hippodrome of Istanbul (Costantinopolis at the time). Carved from pink granite, it was originally erected at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor during the reign of Tuthmosis III in about 1490 BC. A dog is taking some rest in the heat in front of the obelisk while some tourists are visiting the hippodrome.
