Situated along the beach road in Puducherry, the Ambedkar Mani Mandapam was built in the memory of the Indian revolutionist and political leader, Dr. Ambedkar. As independent India`s first law minister, he was the principal architect of the Constitution of India. Dr. Ambedkar was born in a poor untouchable family and spent all his life fighting the discrimination of the caste system in India. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna which is India’s highest award given to civilians. He converted to Buddhism which initiated a mass conversion of Dalits into Buddhism. The Ambedkar monument at Pondicherry houses a golden colored statue of Dr. Ambedkar that is kept under a building of pure white color giving the monument a striking look.
