A notable and unusual landmark in Washington DC are the National Capitol Columns at the US National Arboretum. The columns were originally on the East Portico of the Capitol in 1828 and are now set on a foundation of stones from the steps that were on the east side of the Capitol. Old identification marks from the quarry are still visible on some of the stones. They sit on a knoll in the Ellipse Meadow, District of Columbia.
