Pictured is a Mural featuring Erykah Badu and Bessie Smith by Dan Colcer in Deep Ellum, Texas. Bessie Smith was born in 1894 and died in 1937. She was nicknamed the `Empress of Blues`` and was the most popular female blues singer of the 1920s and 1930s. Her life was tragically cut short by a car crash that killed her at age 43. Erykah Badu, born in 1971, is an American singer-songwriter, record producer and actress. She has been called the `Queen of Neo Soul`. The mural is part of the Blues Alley Project. The project was the idea of artists Dan and Cathryn Colcer to pay tribute to music legends of Dallas who influenced the Blues music genre.
