In 2020, a hand-painted series of sculptures in the likeness of a sea lion spread across the waterfront, downtown San Francisco, and Golden Gate Park as part of a yearlong public art installation. Illustrated by Bay Area artists, each six-foot-tall fiberglass statue serves as a life-sized reminder of the hazards threatening the now-endangered marine mammals, which include ocean acidification, sea farming vessels, fishing nets, micro-plastics and PCB pollution.
