Mozambique celebrates its Victory Day or Dia da Vitoria every year on September 07. It is a celebratory day to commemorate the signing of the agreement to end the Mozambique war of Independence, in which the nationalist liberation movement FRELIMO waged a guerrilla war against the colonial Portuguese government. The agreement was signed in 1974. I was in the small rural hamlet of Metarica (Niassa Province) in Sept 2010 and was witness to the parades and celebrations. It is a poverty ridden area, however both adults and children march through the streets in their best clothing. Luckily I manages to shoot some photos.
