As the family of newborn goslings and parents near the shore the mother goose tries to scare off another pair of geese by charging them with mouth open and trumpeting loud noises. They are swimming in a small pond in the Busch Wildlife Area in east central Missouri on a warn spring day in early May. The goslings patiently wait for the signal to leave the water in a tight group for safety. Father Goose appears perplexed by the violence shown by the mother.
