Tufa towers at Mono Lake State Tufa Natural Reserve in California. Mono Lake is an ancient saline lake with a particular delicate ecosystem adapted to survive under such salty conditions. The tufa towers are slowly formed over years by calcium carbonate precipitating out of the lake.
