This Monks or Indian cress, Tropaeolum majus, is noted for emitting a flashes of light at dusk. This was thought to be some electrical phenomena. It was then 19 year old Elisabeth von Linne, daughter of the famed botanist and doctor Carl von Linne, who first showed it was just an optical illusion with reflections between the orange flowers and the green surrounding them. This effect is now named in her honor. Almost the whole above ground part of the flower can be used in the kitchen, and part are also used in medicine.
