Mission Espada is the oldest Spanish mission in the state of Texas. The historic landmark chapel was founded in 1690 by Spanish colonists with the goals of converting Native Americans to Catholicism, and it is still an active Catholic church today. Look closely, and you will see a cat perched on the brick wall, adding to the picturesque beauty of the historic building.
