The green pods, and leaves of the perennial Milkweed plant, Asclepias syriaca,before the pods burst open. The plant is perhaps best known as a favourite food of butterflies, particularly the monarch. It is a pesty weed in farmer's hayfields and pastures, while, for many, it is a vegetable worth foraging.
