Pictured is the Main Chapel and altar of the Basilica of Saint Petronius in Bolgna, Italy. The large octagonal wooden dome was designed by the architect Francesco Martini. Giovan Battista Barberini placed around the dome large statues of four of the city's saints, Proclus and Florian to the major isle and Ambrose and Petronius to the choir and clergy. The monumental wooden crucifix with heads of cherubs painted in the heads of the cross placed above the altar is made by an unknown author of the fifteenth century. Everywhere you can find angels, allegorical figures and medallions with stories of Saint Petronius.
