In October 1938, the Japanese invaders occupied Guangzhou and Wuhan, and the Kuomintang government moved the capital to Chongqing. The Southern Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China with Comrade Zhou Enlai as the secretary was formed. At that time, the Southern Bureau and the Chongqing Office of the Eighth Route Army were both located in Hongyan Village. In 1945, Comrade Mao Zedong also lived in Hongyan Village during the 43 days from Yan`an to Chongqing to negotiate with the Kuomintang. Therefore, Hongyan Village became a center of political activities that attracted worldwide attention. The Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall is located on the banks of the Jialing River in Chongqing, adjacent to No. 13 Hongyan Village, No. 50 Zengjiayan, Guiyuan, and the former site of `Xinhua Daily`. The center of the Kuomintang ruled area to consolidate and develop the anti-Japanese national united front and lead the people to carry out revolutionary struggles. Because of its outstanding performance, a museum was set up to commemorate it. The museum was built in 1958. In 1970, a showroom was established in Hongyan Village, and in March 1999, the construction of the Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall started. The name of the museum `Hongyan Revolutionary Memorial Hall` was inscribed by Comrade Dong Biwu in 1959.
