Every year at the end of April, located at the Ukrainian-Slovak border of Uzhgorod, it attracts thousands of tourists wanting to see a spring flower explosion. All this is due to the flowering of thousands of ornamental cherry trees called the Japanese sakura. The first trees, imported from Vienna, were planted in the city in the 1930s, when Uzhgorod was part of Czechoslovakia. Since then, cherry trees have spread all over the city, but the largest accumulation of them occurs on the banks of the Už River. When the Kiev and Orthodox boulevards were filled in 2009 and 2011, the city gained the longest "Avenue of Sakur" in Europe.
