The palaphitic port of Carrasqueira lies in the estuary of the river Sado, in the region of Alentejo at the Southwest of Portugal. It is perhaps the last remaining palaphite fishing wharf in Europe. The artisanal fishermen built the palaphite structures to have an easier access to their boats and warehouses, regardless of the tide.
