It was originally called Our Lady of Light.When the Dominican friars finished the work of the Church of Santo Domingo in 1559, they soon observed that the foundations of the building were giving way on the side of said street. This is how the Dominicans decided to build the current buttresses that can be seen and that is why the street, when it became narrower, was renamed Callejón de los Estribos.
