Phra samut chedi Festival is an important annual event in Samut PraKan and has been held regularly since the construction of the sacred pagoda. The event takes place in late October. During the event ,the parking space around Phra Samut Chedi and in front of Samut Prakan provincial Hall is turned into a large fair. In the morning , a red-robe procession moves around the town before proceeding to the Chao Phraya River, and then on to Phra Samut Chedi . The ceremony features a changing of the robe around the pagoda from old to new. The fair which tacke place during Phra samut Chedi fastival is full of stalls, as both public and private agencies join the event. Enterainment, such as movies, music performances and charity lucky draes, abound and the event is considered to be a perfect exmple of an old - style temple fair. Close to Bankok, Phra Samut Chedi is also resplendent during the fair with elaborate lights decorating the pagoda.
