Larry Silverstein, billionaire real estate developer and businessman at an event for the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council in New York City on May 3, 2007. Silverstein bought one of the original World Trade Center towers about 6 weeks before it was destroyed in a terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. After years of contentious negotiations, he was awarded $4.55 billion, less than his desired reimbursement target. Undaunted, he then became the developer of the rebuilt World Trade Center complex in Lower Manhattan.
