Located 60 km east of Prague, Kutna Hora is an architecturally rich town. The historical center represents a unique ensemble of more than three hundred medieval and Baroque buildings. The town was built in the early Middle Ages, in the middle of an extensive silver ore field. The deposits were systematically used from the 13th century and soon after, the mine at Kutná Hora was already providing about one third of total European silver production. Thanks to its silver mines, Kutna Hora became the second most significant town after Prague.
