Thirukoneswaram temple, which Hindu priests believe has a history of 6500 years, dates back to the era of Rama Ravana. But today, the temple that we see on the top of Swami Kanda, which was the highest point of Frederick Fort, looks like it was repaired in 1952. It is reported that the ancient Thirukoneswaram temple, consisting of a thousand pillars and filled with various riches, was razed by the Portuguese invaders in the 1620s.
