Kiyomizu-dera temple refers to a complex of Buddhist and Shinto temples but is mainly used for only one: the Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera east of Kyoto, which is one of the most famous places in the town. It was registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1994.
