The North west Air Ambulance charity, runs two Eurocopter 135 T2,s. They operate 365 days a year, cover an area of 5,500 square miles in the north of England, with a population of some 8 million people. They have been operating since 1999, and are highly regarded. The pilots are ex military, and the paramedics are on two year secondments, from the National health service. This helicopter was named, (callsign Helimed 08) after it was paid for (£500,000) by the executors, of the estate of Katie Caine, on the condition it was named Katie.
