White Mountain (Karel. Valgeimägi) is a village in Girvassky rural settlement of Kondopozhsky district of the Republic of Karelia of the Russian Federation.In 1757, here, at the marble deposit discovered in the first half of the XVIII century by merchant Martyanov, a native of the village of Lychny Island, marble breaking began. Belogorsky (Tivdian) marble was used for decoration of many buildings and palaces of St. Petersburg — St. Isaac's Cathedral, Winter, Marble, Mikhailovsky and Mariinsky Palaces, Engineering Castle, Kazan Cathedral. The quarry operated until the beginning of the XX century.
