Mayor Jane Byrne is joined by actresses Sandy Duncan and Barbara Eden, as well as the city's Commissioner for Human Services, Lenora Cartwright. The occasion was a picnic for senior citizens and disabled persons in July, 1980. In 1979 Byrne became the first and only female elected mayor of Chicago. The Democratic mayor served one term before being beaten in the Democratic primary by Harold Washington in 1983. Feisty and outspoken, Byrne died at 81 on November 14, 2014.
