Iris ensata Thunb. is a perennial herbaceous plant in the family Iridaceae, genus Iris. Its rhizome is thick and slanted Leaves linear, with prominent midrib, up to 80 centimeters long and about 1 centimeter wide The flowers are deep purple in color, with a diameter of about 10 centimeters. The perianth tube is funnel-shaped, and the outer perianth lobes are obovate. The claws are slender, and the center is sunken in a groove shape. There are yellow stripes on the midrib, and the inner perianth lobes are small The capsule is oval shaped, about 5 centimeters long, with a short beak at the top and 6 distinct ribs. When mature, it cracks downwards from the top The flowering period is from June to July, and the fruiting period is from August to September.
